When a person searches on the Internet, the search engines take note of the words that person uses for his search. For example, if the searcher writes “horse blanket” in the search box, the search engines will keep track of that phrase and record how often it is used.
(A quick look in JAAXY tells me it has 10496 monthly searches and that the expected traffic is 1785. It also tells me it is not a good keyword to use because there are too many competing sites.)
Because of this, a researcher can use a keyword tool to find the most popular keywords. He can then use them in articles and on websites, etc.
